Start 2023 with a week of self-care: enjoying yoga, meditation, healthy plant based food and outdoor activities in some of the most stunning sceneries nature has to offer. Moaalm Mountain Retreat is your home away from home. This remote mountain house has simple but beautiful rooms, an outdoor hot tub and unforgettable views. It is the perfect place to relax and restore. Allow yourself to be pampered by your host, yoga teacher and mountain guide Barbara and the entire Moaalm team.

This holiday is something for you if you are looking for a relaxing and healthy start of the new year, if you love nature, or if you are simply looking for a special winter holiday in a beautiful place. This week is all about self-care, taking time for you! We have designed a program to feed body, mind and soul with delicious vegan food, daily yoga & meditation sessions and outdoor activities to enjoy nature. The yoga classes and other activities will be tailored to the individuals in the group and previous experience is not needed. All activities are optional, so if you rather stay in and enjoy the comfortable lounge room or wood fired hot tub you're welcome to do so!
HOME AWAY FROM HOME.
Moaalm Mountain Retreat is our remote and private home away from home for the week. This beautifully renovated mountain house is situated at 1800m in the middle of Hohe Tauern National Park, just 3km above the village of Kals am Grossglockner. The house has 6 thoughtfully decorated and spacious guest rooms. The rooms have ensuite bathrooms and stunning views. Downstairs you will find the living room, where you can curl up on the sofa with a book and enjoy good food at the shared dining table. The in-house yoga studio has a large panoramic window with gorgeous views of the mountains. The morning sunrise fills the room with energy and the late afternoon sunset turns the mountains a beautiful shade of pink. I love this room, and I hope hope you will enjoy it as much as I do! YOGA & MEDITATION.
During the week there will be twice daily yoga & meditation classes. The morning sessions are active but mindful vinyasa flow classes, followed by breath work and guided meditation. In the afternoons we will practice a mixture of restorative yoga, yoga nidra and yin yoga. Depending on the weather and preferences within the group more classes might be offered. All classes are tailored to the individuals in the group so that everyone can participate at their own level and pace. I love to create classes that empower, that establish a better relationship between mind and body and that create the right energy for the time of day. Classes are themed, but always have a strong focus on the breath. I am a certified and experienced yoga & meditation teacher and mindfulness trainer.
SNOW SHOE HIKING.
Snow covered mountains are a quiet winter wonder land that is best explored by foot. During the week me and the Moaalm team will take you on guided mountain walks to soak up the peace and beauty nature has to offer. We might see wildlife, such as ibexes, deer and eagles. We will provide you with snow shoes and hiking poles and explain everything you need to know about snow shoe hiking, no previous experience is required. The duration and level of challenge of the hikes will vary throughout the week, to allow you to pick and choose what suits you best. Do you prefer to go out on your own? No problem, various hiking trails start at the house and we can provide you with maps and suggestions!
In addition to yoga classes and the guided hikes there is more to explore! The road leading up to the house is a tobogganing run and there are sledges for you to use. If conditions allow and people are interested we will offer a cross country ski or iglo building workshop free of charge. There is no age limit to having fun in the snow!
Alternatively you can also go skiing on the pistes of the nearby GG-resort or book an ice climbing workshop at the local mountain guide office. These activities will be at additional costs.

At Delta Yoga we love food! We strongly believe that the energy we supply the body with (e.g. the foods we eat) impact how we feel throughout our lives. At Moaalm Mountain Retreat we will enjoy 3 delicious plant based meals a day. The food is sourced locally and organic whenever possible. All meals are prepared with lots of love. During breakfast there will be granola with plant based yoghurt, seeds, nuts and fruits, bread and spreads, juices and other goodies. For lunch we might bring a packed lunch on our hike or enjoy a soup or salad at the house. In the afternoon we are treated with tea and cake, because cake always makes life better! Dinner is healthy, hearty and looks like party on a plate. With dinner we serve a glass of local wine, it's a holiday after all. All day tea and fruits are available to you. This retreat is full service and all meals are included, except for one evening out when the chef has a day off. We take care of transfer to and from the nearby restaurant.
The program always depends on the weather conditions and how we feel, but a day in this retreat might look like this:
7:30h Wake up with a cup of tea and some fruit, or sleep in a little longer - it's your vacation, so always your choice
8:00h Yoga, breath work & meditation practice
11:00h Snow shoe hike starting from the house, exploring the beautiful mountain scenery. Today we might have brought a packed lunch, so we find a picknick spot with breathtaking views. You might also decide to not join the hike and enjoy some me-time with a book on the sofa in the cosy living room
15:30h Afternoon tea & cake
17:00h Restorative yoga
18:00h Hot tub time! Enjoy the sun set from the steaming outdoor hot tub overlooking the mountains
19:30h Dinner at the shared dining table
21:00h After dinner you might want to join a board game, go for an evening stroll in the snow, join an extra evening mediation or go to bed early
All activities are optional. This week is about self-care and tuning in into what it is you need in the moment.
HOHE TAUERN NATIONAL PARK.
We will be hiking in Hohe Tauern National Park. Moaalm used to be my home from 2015 to 2017, so the mountains that surround the house feel like my back yard. It's a magical place, much wilder and more deserted than most of the Alps. Wildlife roams around in the forests, on the mountain slopes and in the sky. Because we are situated at the main alpine ridge, snow conditions are usually good. Most of the ski resort is built on the other side of the mountains, so the valley of Kals is unspoiled. From the valley there are endless options to hike and explore nature!
We have arranged a transfer from and to Salzburg airport. The transfer is included in the price. On Saturday January 21st the transfer will depart at 15:00h from the airport, so make sure to book a flight that arrives before that time. On Saturday January 28th the transfer will arrive at the airport around 12:00h, so make sure to book a flight after that time.

Unfortunately we cannot provide any discounts if you decide not to use the airport transfer.
YOUR HOST, YOGA TEACHER & GUIDE.
Hi! My name is Barbara. It's my job to help people gain present moment awareness and energy efficiency to thrive. I work as a yoga teacher, mindfulness trainer, personal leadership coach and expedition leader. Sometimes I work in yoga studio's or retreat centers, other times I provide trainings at corporate offices or guide groups on high mountain all over the world. Although these workplaces seem to differ, for me they are very similar. Wether it is on a mountain, yoga mat or in a boardroom - I see people that get challenged, that establish a better connection to their body and that find rest and new inspiration. I love yoga, meditation and mountains and this retreat has it all! I look forward to sharing my passions with you.
I am a certified mountain hiking guide (Tiroler Bergwanderführer), yoga teacher (E-RYT-500) and mindfulness trainer (Radboud University, category 1). Over the past few years I delivered almost 2000 hours of yoga, meditation and mindfulness classes to groups, individuals and organisations.

Wat moet ik aantrekken en meenemen naar yoga?Trek kleding aan die lekker zit en waarin je je kunt bewegen. Yoga matten zijn aanwezig, maar als je erg gehecht bent aan je eigen mat kun je die gerust meenemen.
Moet ik voor de les nog ergens op letten?Het is aan te raden om niet te kort voor de yogales te eten, net als bij andere bewegingsvormen voelt yoga met een volle buik niet prettig. Eet lichte maaltijden tot 30minuten van te voren en zwaardere maaltijden tot 90 minuten van te voren.
Moet ik lenig zijn om yoga te doen?Nee hoor! De docent helpt je om de houdingen aan te passen aan wat jouw lichaam wel of niet kan. Yoga gaat om de functie, niet om de vorm - de poses zien er bij iedereen anders uit en dat maakt niets uit. Je zult merken dat je na verloopt van tijd meer bewegingsvrijheid en kracht in je lichaam ontwikkelt.
Kan ik yoga doen als ik zwanger ben?In het eerste trimester kun je meedoen met de reguliere lessen, mits je je goed voelt en goed naar je lichaam luistert tijdens de les. Omdat je lichaam het hormoon relaxin aanmaakt moet je extra opletten en niet je fysieke grenzen opzoeken. Vertel de docent altijd dat je zwanger bent, zodat deze je alternatieve houdingen kan aanraden. Let op dat je geen diepe twist houdingen beoefent en dat je naar mate je buik groter wordt, deze niet belast. Vermijd buikspier oefeningen. Vanaf het tweede trimester is het aan te raden om over te stappen naar de zwangerschapsyoga lessen.
